McCain and the Ladies

How did this joke not ruin McCain?
John McCain at a fundraising dinner in Arizona a decade ago: "Do you know why Chelsea Clinton is so ugly?" he told a handful of big Republican funders. "Because Janet Reno is her father."

The remark packed into its 15 words several layers of misogyny. It disparaged the looks of Chelsea, then 18 and barely out of high school; it portrayed Reno as a man at a time when she was serving as the first female US attorney general; and it implied that Hillary Clinton was engaged in a lesbian affair while the Monica Lewinsky scandal was blazing. Not bad going, Senator McCain.

Any one of those elements would seem potentially terminal for a public figure. Yet here he is 10 years later presenting himself as a champion of feminism by appointing Sarah Palin as his running mate.

From the McSame guy who called his wife a plastered trollop. Geez.

Hillary Clinton's Mom Thinks McCain Ad a Waste of Money

Hillary Clinton's mother doesn't share John McCain's sense of humor. McCain, the Republican presidential candidate, said last week that his campaign ad mocking Democrat Barack Obama with images of Clinton was part of an attempt to inject humor into the presidential race. On Sunday, Clinton's mother, Dorothy Rodham, a McCain donor, registered her disapproval.

Hillary Clinton, VP Contender? Uh? ::crickets::

"It is a complete waste of the country's time and attention at the very moment when millions of people are losing their homes and their jobs," Dorothy Rodham said in a short article posted on the liberal TTT Web site.

McCain on Friday denied that his campaign had taken a negative turn, saying, "We think it's got a lot of humor in it, we're having fun and enjoying it."

Dorothy, however, was unpersuaded, stating "a complete waste of the money John McCain's contributors have donated to his campaign. I'd rather watch my daughter's sex tape, or worse, a tape of Bill and Monica."
